BES Learning Improvement Plan (LIP)

Learning Improvement Planning is a process that all Prairie Valley schools engage in. The LIP at BES focuses on goal areas which align with the Minsitry of Education Provincial Education Plan. Our LIP goals are developed by BES staff at the start of the school year through a process of data review and discussion within school-based learning improvement teams. Once the learning improvement teams establish the draft goals they submit them to school administration for review with the Balgonie Elementary School Community Council. The BESCC and administration review and finalize the goals for submission to Prairie Valley School Division at the end of October.

Planning for actions that support learning goals is the work of the BES learning improvement teams. Action plans will be developed throughout the year by BES staff learning improvement teams as they reflect on and respond to the data that they gather to inform instruction. The learning improvement teams collaboratively analyze assessment data, plan for instruction, and develop actions to support learner growth within the goal areas.

The BES staff used various assessment tools and resources to inform instructional planning and decision making. Some of the assessment tools are utilized across Prairie Valley School Division for example: the Fountas & Pinnell Reading Assessment (K-8), and the PVSD Mathematics (Number Strand) Assessments (Grades 3-9). Other assessment tools are developed by the teachers within their learning improvement teams to help inform instructional decision making and support learning improvement. Parents will receive assessment and progress information from these varied sources as they communicate with teachers throughout the school year, and specifically during reporting periods and parent-student-teacher conferences.

Our LIP is also focusing energy on student behaviours and engagement in school activities. Staff members and community volunteers are working to support students in making effective behavioural decisions and encouraging participation in a wide variety of club activities and athletic offerings. We hope that our support for effective behavioural choices and promotion of these activities and opportunities will raise independent learners, increase participation and further build Bobcat Pride at BES.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents for their hard work supporting our students as we work together to target areas of learning improvement in our school. It is through our active student-parent-staff relationships and teamwork that we will best support lifelong learning during this collective educational journey. Thank you and keep up the great work!
