Mission & Programs
Providing a forum through which:

School practices and school board policies can be communicated to parent's, guardians and community members;

Parents' ideas, concerns and recommendations on school matters can be effectively communicated to the school administration and board.

Working with the school principal to ensure the best possible education for the students and ensure parents’ views and concerns are communicated in a constructive way.

Working to facilitate and organize programs, activities and events that support a quality educational experience and promote the school's learning improvement plan.

The Council is comprised of of voluntary board members.

All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend meetings and / or participate in volunteer activities. (Your attendance at a meeting does not imply future voluntary commitments.).

Involvement is an excellent way to contribute to and learn about the school and students and meet teachers, administrators and other parents.
Programs
Monthly Hot Lunch fundraiser – once a month a hot lunch is served to all students who have ordered it via the Munch-A-Lunch ordering program. The Hot Lunch Committee operates this monthly program.
Birthday Books Literacy Program – we provide a book, along with parental literacy information, to Kindergarten students. We are grateful to have this program funded by the Balgonie Elks Lodge #572.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation – we appreciate our terrific staff at BES and our Staff Appreciation Committee does special things for them throughout the year.
School Projects: we focus on improvements for our school, initiatives identified by school staff & students for funding considerations and other items we feel re enhancements to our school. Some past items have included: a new play structure (2011); AED; water bottle filling stations; fitness circuit equipment; Buddy Bench; Literacy supplies & books and the purchase of large umbrellas to make the courtyard a more comfortable learning space.
Child Minding Services during Parent/Student/Teacher interviews – to allow parents and students to get the most out of their teacher interviews, we offer child minding services for those siblings who are not involved in the interviews.
Community & Parent Engagement Events – we periodically organize special events or speakers for the benefit of all members of our school and greater community. Some of our past events have included: Survivor Math Challenge; Giant Cardboard Arcade; Winter Literacy Carnival; Hip Hop Hoop Dance; Winter Olympics; Square Dancing; Ronald Morrish (Behavioural Consultant); Trina Markusson (Mindfulness presentation)
The School Council is involved in many programs and special events - we are always looking for parents to get involved.
